Lambo's latest baby is born - the Huracan

The Lamborghini Huracan has arrived. No, I know what you are thinking. It is not pronounced 'hurricane' at all. Come on, reveal your Italian flair and say "Ooh-rah-cahn". Now, already this beast has a lot of weight on its brand new shoulders, because this is the replacement for Lamborghini's best-selling car ever. The Gallardo. No pressure there, then.

Take a good, hard look at at. When I first saw it, I thought Lamborghini were being a little bit tame here, a little bit Audi. The curves are existing now; the Gallardo looked like it was designed with someone who had a love affair with a ruler, and it really did work. But the thing is, the more I do look at this car, the more I can't help but just really, really like it. Let's be fair, I am certain this car does not look its best in this weird mustard yellow paint job. Why yellow? Remember when the new BMW M4 was revealed, in a dirty gold? Yuck.
But anyway, not only has the new baby Lambo got to live up for with its father, it also has to plunge straight in with a competition which is full of cars near perfection. I am talking about the McLaren MP4-12C and the much drooled over Ferrari 458. These cars are the holy, these cars are the gods that all other manufacturers look up to. And so if the new Huracan can't even match these cars, it's a bad fail for poor Lamborghini.

But the guys back in Italy have done the right thing. They have decided to play safe with their new car, deciding on an evolution rather than a revolution. Despite the Gallardo being a decade old, you simply cannot argue with the best selling car ever for a manufacturer, and so with such fierce competition from opponents, Lambo has taken the safe and probably right step.
But enough nonsense about that; you want and need to know about the performance! Using an upgraded version of the existing 5.2L V10 engine, the Huracan now produces 602bhp. That is more than the original Murcielago, and puts the Huracan slap bang in the middle of the Ferrari and the McLaren (562bhp and 616bhp respectively). As a result, this car will dash to 60 in just 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of "over 202mph". I wonder why they quoted over 202mph? *cough* (Ferrari 458 top speed is 202mph)  *cough, cough*

Not only that, the baby Lambo finally comes equipped with a dual clutch set up, allowing acceleration to be cleaner and quicker. Sadly, for you enthusiasts, there is no manual gearbox option. Yet. That isn't the only toy now fitted. Do you like carbon ceramic brakes? Well, good news, the face-rippers are now fitted as standard, but you'll have to pay if you want variable magnetorheological suspension, as found on the Audi R8 and Ferrari F12.
Are you a fan of the Huracan? It certainly does have a very tough battle to fight with it's competition (the Gallardo 'only' had the Ferrari 360 when it was introduced), but I think it can do it. I wonder if there will ever be a day where Audi calls a stop to Lamborghini's weird and wonderful madness...
